2012 Quiz for Children

18th Quiz for Children

29 November 2012, Brussels

How did we do?

The 2012 Quiz was raising money for the UNICEF Belgium Step by Step Closer to School campaign which aims to combat poverty through providing access to primary education in rural areas, with the focus being on India, the Peoples’ Republic of Congo, Haiti and Burundi.

The money handed over to UNICEF from the 2012 Quiz equated to enough teaching materials to educate over

4800 children

who may not otherwise have had access to schooling.

 thank you!

to all our sponsors, supporters and teams who made the 2012 Quiz for Children such a success

If you weren’t there, here’s what we got up to….

At 17:30 on 29 November 2012, the doors to the Concert Noble were once again flung open to welcome 75 eager and medal-hungry Quiz Teams representing Businesses, Law Firms, Consultancies & Associations from Brussels and beyond.
All were there to have a fun night out while making as much money as possible for UNICEF….oh, and there was a fair bit of competition between teams too.

We saw the return of our energetic Quiz Masters, the dynamic duo of Jacki Davis and Geoff Meade, and our resident Master of Ceremonies, Mark Dober, deftly guided us through the evening, while the APCO Worldwide, ex-pats for UNICEF and UNICEF Belgium volunteers dusted off their UNICEF T-shirts for another Quiz.

The questions were varied and tough, and tension amongst the teams was almost tangible throughout the three grueling rounds. However, there was some respite for them during the entertainment breaks.

Of course, there were our dancing bears who managed to entice our Quiz Masters, and others to join them on stage.

On top of all this there were raffles & competitions & winners cups & medals & prizes & food & drinks & (most importantly) lots of money raised for UNICEF

There were also our two Mystery Guests whose hidden identity had to be
guessed by the Quizzers for extra points:

Our first guest was the Speaking Diva, Marie Terese Letorney, International opera singer and Founder & Director of Ask your Voice

After she performed and baffled Quizzers with the music round, we had a sneak preview of some
Ask Your Voice tips for improving one’s speaking voice, which involved full-on participation from the Quizzers.

Our second Mystery Guest was Bai Kamara, an established and popular singer-songwriter based in Brussels. His involvement with the UNICEF event was particularly relevant as many of his musical themes revolve around humanitarian issues. After his identity
had been revealed, he entertained the Quizzers with a live acoustic

The fight for the Gold Medals was fierce, but the triumphant 2012 Winners were
Latham & Watkins’ team the ‘Know-it-alls’

They also scooped the Law Firm Winner’s Cup, while Burson Marsteller’s team, ‘The Inquizitors’, won the Consultancy Winner’s Cup
